Arizona Women’s Basketball suffers defeat against NAU in opening round of WBIT | Updates

Arizona Women’s Basketball’s season came to a disappointing end in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) as they fell to Northern Arizona 71-69. Head Coach Adia Barnes expressed her disappointment, stating that the team was indifferent about playing in the tournament after missing out on the NCAA Tournament. NAU’s Nyah Moran sealed the victory with a late jumper, while Arizona failed to capitalize on their final possession to tie or win the game.

Barnes criticized the team’s lack of communication, toughness, and fundamental mistakes throughout the game, pointing out their struggles with offensive rebounds and transition defense. Skylar Jones led Arizona with 21 points and nine rebounds, while Breya Cunningham had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Despite the loss, NAU’s Sophie Glancey and Taylor Feldman impressed with 23 and 22 points, respectively. Arizona finished the season at 19-14, while NAU advanced to face Belmont in the WBIT. The Wildcats were missing key players Jada Williams, Montaya Dew, and Jorynn Ross due to injuries.
