Lumberjacks Sweep Eagles in Volleyball Showdown
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Nov. 21, 2024) – The Northern Arizona University (NAU) women’s volleyball team delivered an impressive performance against the Eastern Washington Eagles, securing a decisive three-set victory (25-19, 25-21, 25-20) in their penultimate regular-season match. With this win, the Lumberjacks improved their overall record to 13-13, while also enhancing their Big Sky Conference standings to 6-9. Conversely, Eastern Washington fell to 12-13 with an 8-7 conference record.
NAU’s head coach, Ken Murphy, praised the team’s execution, highlighting their strong offensive strategy and solid defense that effectively limited the Eagles’ chances. The Lumberjacks dominated the first set with a combination of kills from Sophia Wadsworth and Kendall Robertson, as well as aces from Millie O’Ketter, ultimately taking control after an early deficit.
The second set showcased NAU’s dominance as they quickly built a 12-4 lead, propelled by a mix of powerful kills and serving aces. Despite a late push from Eastern Washington, the Lumberjacks maintained composure, with Hanah Stoddard delivering the final blow to secure the set.
In the third set, Northern Arizona replicated their aggressive start, securing a 5-1 lead. Though the Eagles attempted to mount a comeback, the Lumberjacks sealed the match with strong performances from Taylor Jacobsen and Stoddard.
Jacobsen led with 15 kills, closely followed by Stoddard’s 13. NAU totaled 48 kills with a .275 hitting percentage while holding Eastern Washington to 39 kills at .165. The Lumberjacks will conclude their regular season against Idaho on Nov. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rolle Activity Center, with live coverage available on ESPN+.
