Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made strong statements regarding the port of Hodeidah in Yemen, calling it a main entry point for weapons from Iran to the Houthi rebels. The Israeli army has launched strikes on Houthi targets in response to a drone attack that killed one person in Tel Aviv, claiming it was in retaliation for attacks on Israel.
The Houthi-run government in Sanaa has condemned the Israeli strikes, claiming civilian casualties as a result. The Israeli Prime Minister labeled the Houthis as part of Iran’s “axis of evil” and called for increased international efforts to combat Iran’s aggression in the region.
Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagari defended the strikes as necessary self-defense against the Houthi attacks, marking a new front in the region’s complex conflicts involving Iran and its proxies. The strike on Hodeidah marks the first Israeli action on Yemeni soil since the conflict with Hamas began.
The Houthis have claimed responsibility for a drone attack on Tel Aviv, which resulted in one casualty and multiple injuries. The group has targeted Israel in solidarity with the Palestinian cause, as well as ships in the Red Sea. Despite the ongoing violence, Israel continues to emphasize the need to protect international peace and security against Iranian aggression.
