More Winds Expected to Bring Flooding to California and Northwest Region

The Pacific Northwest is facing more high winds after being hit by a “bomb cyclone” earlier in the week, leaving more than 200,000 homes and businesses without power in Washington state. Two people were killed by falling trees in the storm. In California, an atmospheric river continues to bring heavy rain, leading to flooding in areas like Santa Rosa. The storm also brought snow to the Sierra Nevada, causing traffic disruptions. In total, around 14 million people were under winter storm warnings or advisories. New York state and Pennsylvania are also expected to receive snowfall, with some areas potentially receiving up to a foot of snow. New York City was not under advisories, but parts of New Jersey and the Hudson Valley were. The Johnstown, Pennsylvania area was under a winter weather warning, with the possibility of significant snow accumulation, while upstate New York regions like Binghamton and Ithaca could see 1 to 4 inches of snow in the valleys and up to a foot at higher elevations. Overall, the region is facing a winter weather threat with a mix of snow, rain, and strong winds.
