Supplier of Coca-Cola’s Fairlife brand terminates relationship with two Arizona farms due to accusations of animal cruelty

A supplier of milk to Coca-Cola’s Fairlife brand has cut ties with two farms in Arizona following an investigation by Animal Recovery Mission that revealed animal cruelty. The investigation found employees at Rainbow Valley and Butterfield Dairy farms in Buckeye, Arizona, engaging in abuse such as hitting, dragging, and shooting animals. Fairlife, which operates as a milk processor and does not own farms, stated it has “zero tolerance for animal abuse” and has suspended milk delivery from the affected facilities.
This is not the first time Fairlife has faced allegations of animal abuse. In the past, ARM found similar acts of cruelty at Indiana dairy farms supplying Fairlife milk, resulting in a $21 million settlement in 2022. Despite these allegations, Fairlife has continued to see success, surpassing $1 billion in annual retail sales and holding the top spot for white milk sales in the U.S. based on growth.
Fairlife has stated that it invests millions in animal welfare programs and conducts regular audits of supplier farms to ensure proper treatment of animals. United Dairymen of Arizona, the supplier in question, expressed shock and sadness at the behavior depicted in the videos and emphasized the importance of proper animal treatment.
While previous allegations have not significantly impacted Fairlife’s success, the company continues to face scrutiny over its animal welfare practices. Coca-Cola, which owns Fairlife, remains committed to the brand and is set to open a new facility in New York to support its growth.
