Family in Arizona seeks justice on anniversary of son’s death

On the anniversary of their son’s tragic death, the Bizzle family held a vigil at the crosswalk where 13-year-old Elias was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Glendale, Arizona. The family gathered with others demanding justice and accountability for the loss of their loved one. Elias was hit while riding his bike home from practice, and after 12 days on life support, he passed away.

Friends, family, and community members attended the vigil to honor Elias, a straight “A” student and athlete. The suspected driver, Joshua Holbert, has pled not guilty to the charges. The Bizzle family is calling for changes to prevent future tragedies, including making the intersection where Elias was hit safer and harsher penalties for hit-and-run crimes.

Elias’s mother, Victoria, expressed the pain of losing her son and the need to prevent similar incidents in the future. The family’s grief remains raw one year later, as they work towards justice and improved safety measures to honor Elias’s memory.
