Arizona State wing Amier Ali announces decision to enter transfer portal

Arizona State University freshman wing Amier Ali has announced his decision to enter the transfer portal, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. During the 2024-25 season, Ali put up averages of 5.5 points and 3.1 rebounds in 32 games for the Sun Devils. His standout performance came in a game against Texas Tech where he scored a career-high 18 points on 6-of-7 shooting.

Standing at 6-foot-8, Ali was a highly sought-after four-star recruit from Canyon International Academy who had received offers from top programs like Texas, Kentucky, and Alabama before ultimately choosing ASU. His entry into the transfer portal makes him the ninth ASU men’s basketball player to do so this offseason.

Among the notable Sun Devils who have also entered the transfer portal are centers Jayden Quaintance and Shawn Philips Jr., guard Joson Sanon, and forward Basheer Jihad. On the flip side, ASU has welcomed three new players from the transfer portal this offseason, including wing Marcus Adams Jr., guard Moe Odum, and forward Allen David Mukeba.

Ali’s decision to transfer represents a significant change for the Sun Devils’ roster as they look to reload for the upcoming season. His departure, along with that of other key players, will undoubtedly have an impact on the team’s dynamics and future strategies. Stay tuned for more updates on ASU’s evolving basketball roster.
