Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant suffered a left ankle sprain during Sunday’s game against the Houston Rockets. The injury occurred when he stepped on Jabari Smith Jr.’s foot and rolled his ankle on a drive. Durant, who left the game with the Suns trailing 92-57, was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the contest. He finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, and one turnover in 23 minutes.
Durant will undergo an MRI for further evaluation and will not initially join the team on their upcoming three-game road trip. This is not the first time Durant has dealt with ankle injuries this season, having missed three games in both February and December.
Despite Durant’s absence, the Suns are hopeful to secure a spot in the play-in games as they continue their season. Their next game is against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, followed by three home games before concluding the season against the Sacramento Kings on April 13.
Coach Mike Budenholzer confirmed that Durant will stay behind for medical evaluation and treatment while the team travels. The Suns are looking to bounce back and finish the season strong despite the setback of Durant’s injury.
