Joson Sanon is considering transferring from ASU to St. John’s

Arizona State freshman Joson Sanon has decided to transfer to St. John’s after spending his freshman season with Arizona State. Sanon cited Coach Rick Pitino’s belief in his potential and work ethic as reasons for his decision. His agent, Derek Malloy, also pushed for the move to play under Pitino, who led St. John’s to a 31-5 record last season. Sanon averaged 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, and one assist in 28.3 minutes over 27 games at Arizona State.

Originally a four-star high school prospect, Sanon flipped his commitment from Arizona to Arizona State and had offers from schools like UConn, Kentucky, and Kansas. He later reclassified to the 2024 class to be eligible for the 2025 NBA Draft. Despite high expectations, Sanon and fellow top recruit Jayden Quaintance could not lead Arizona State to success, finishing with a disappointing 13-19 record.

Coach Bobby Hurley is expected to return for the 2025-26 season as Arizona State looks to bounce back from a challenging season. Sanon’s decision to transfer to St. John’s adds to the offseason moves in college basketball. Sanon will bring his talents to New York City and Madison Square Garden, hoping to make an impact under Pitino’s leadership. This move marks a new chapter in Sanon’s career and shows the competitiveness and drive he has to succeed in the sport.
