Brandon Pfaadt secures position as Diamondbacks’ fifth starting pitcher

The Arizona Diamondbacks have officially named right-hander Brandon Pfaadt as their fifth starter in the rotation for the upcoming regular season. Pfaadt will join Zac Gallen, Corbin Burnes, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Merrill Kelly in the starting rotation, with Gallen set to start on Opening Day against the Chicago Cubs.

Ryne Nelson and Jordan Montgomery, who both competed for the fifth rotation spot, will begin the season in the bullpen. Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo mentioned the possibility of sending starters to the bullpen if needed in certain situations during the season.

Pfaadt performed well last season, leading the team in innings pitched and posting a 4.71 ERA with 185 strikeouts in 181.2 innings. He gained recognition during the 2023 postseason, particularly in the NLCS against Philadelphia, where he impressed with 9.2 innings, two earned runs, and 16 strikeouts.

The Diamondbacks have high hopes for Pfaadt as he joins the rotation this season, following his breakout performance in the previous year. Fans will be eagerly awaiting his debut as a starter in the regular season, looking forward to seeing him continue his success on the mound. With a strong rotation in place, the Diamondbacks are gearing up for an exciting start to the season and hope to build on their past successes.
