Arizona prepares for potential measles outbreak in 2025

Arizona Department of Health Services has reported zero cases of measles in the state, with Maricopa County Public Health Department monitoring the situation closely. ASU epidemiologist Megan Jehn warned of the risk of cases appearing in Arizona due to nearby state outbreaks. There have been over 300 confirmed cases and two deaths reported by the CDC so far in 2025.

Experts are prepared to quickly identify, investigate, and respond to any suspected measles cases. Vaccination rates in certain Arizona counties are below the 95% threshold needed to slow the spread of the disease. The cause of the current outbreak is unknown, but it is believed to be imported cases due to frequent travel abroad.

Measles is highly contagious and can lead to severe complications, which is why vaccination is essential.
