After 23 years, Aaron Gunches, the man convicted of kidnapping and murdering Ted Price in 2002, is set to be executed in Arizona on Wednesday, marking the state’s first execution in over two years. Gunches, who took it upon himself to kill Price at the request of his ex-wife, has waived multiple appeals and has expressed that his own death sentence is “long overdue.” With 112 prisoners on death row in Arizona, Gunches’ case was interrupted by a review of the state’s execution procedures, which was later dismissed by Gov. Katie Hobbs. The last execution in the state occurred in November 2022 after an eight-year hiatus due to a botched execution in 2014 and difficulties obtaining execution drugs. Troy Hayden from 12News has been selected as a media witness to the upcoming lethal injection scheduled for 10 a.m. in Florence. The heinous crime committed by Gunches in 2002 will finally see justice served with his execution.
