Arizona Diamondbacks pay tribute to Arizona State University football with ceremonial first pitch on Opening Day

Arizona State University head football coach Kenny Dillingham and four players have received the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch at the Arizona Diamondbacks’ Opening Day. The players joining Dillingham are quarterback Sam Leavitt, wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, defensive back Xavion Alford, and defensive lineman C.J. Fite. The D-backs will be recognizing ASU’s successful Big 12 title-winning team that made it to the College Football Playoff last season.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will be facing the Chicago Cubs on March 27 at 7:10 p.m. to kick off the regular season, with the Sun Devils scheduled to throw out the first pitch around 10 minutes before game time. D-backs president and CEO Derrick Hall expressed excitement about showcasing the local team that had such a successful season.

Coach Dillingham had previously met with the Diamondbacks during spring training and received positive feedback from manager Torey Lovullo regarding their interaction. Both teams are characterized as underdogs that have surprised many with their unexpected playoff runs and are now facing increased expectations.
