Freshmen Tabitha Benson and Kennedy Sanders led the ninth-seeded Colorado Buffaloes to a 61-58 victory over the eighth-seeded Arizona Wildcats in the second round of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship. The Buffaloes will now advance to the quarterfinals to face the No. 1 seed and No. 8 ranked TCU. Tabitha Benson scored 16 points while Kennedy Sanders added 14 to secure the win.
Despite Arizona leading by eight entering the fourth quarter, Colorado made a comeback with Sanders and Lior Garzon leading the charge. Garzon scored off a nice assist from Kindyll Wetta to tie the game and then hit a midrange jumper for the lead. Arizona missed crucial shots down the stretch, allowing Colorado to secure the win.
The Wildcats were led by Skylar Jones with 17 points, Jada Williams with 13 points, and Isis Beh with 10 rebounds and nine points. Colorado’s strong performance in the second half propelled them to victory and a spot in the quarterfinals.
