Utah routs ASU despite Joson Sanon’s standout performance

Utah dominated ASU in a 99-73 victory, with the Utes scoring heavily in the paint and at the free-throw line in the first half. The absence of Jayden Quaintance due to injury was felt as ASU struggled inside. Fatigue set in for the Sun Devils in the second half due to a short rotation, allowing Utah to go on a decisive run and secure the win.

Despite missing key players like Adam Miller and uncertainty around Basheer Jihad’s availability, ASU’s Joson Sanon shined with a career-high 28 points, impressing coach Bobby Hurley. Sanon, a highly-touted recruit, showed his scoring ability and overcame previous struggles in Big 12 play.

Utah’s Ezra Ausar led the way with 25 points, while ASU’s shooting percentage dropped significantly in the second half. The game also marked the return of Brady Smith, son of recently fired head coach Craig Smith, who contributed in the final moments.

ASU will now turn their attention to a matchup with Arizona on Tuesday. Sanon’s performance and the team’s resilience will be key as they look to bounce back from the loss to Utah and compete against their in-state rivals.
