Pentagon to Deploy Nearly 3,000 More Active-Duty Troops to U.S.-Mexico Border

The Pentagon is sending nearly 3,000 additional active-duty troops to the U.S.-Mexico border as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to tighten border security and combat illegal immigration. The troops, including soldiers from the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team and the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, will provide transportation, engineering support, and help with the movement of personnel and supplies along the border. These troops will not be directly involved in deportation operations. This brings the total number of U.S. troops at the southern border to about 9,200. Trump is determined to expand the military’s role in securing the border and sending detained migrants back to their home countries. Military personnel have been deployed to the border since the 1990s to address issues such as migration, drug trafficking, and transnational crime. The deployment of additional troops is aimed at reinforcing and expanding current border security operations to protect the territorial integrity of the United States. This move comes as part of Trump’s campaign promise to crack down on illegal immigration and secure the U.S. border.
