Teen with cancer named prom king at Arizona men’s basketball game

Banner Diamond Children’s Medical Center in Tucson has been hosting a prom for teenage patients facing severe illness for the past four years, and this year, the event is sponsored by the Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation. The prom queen and king were crowned by University of Arizona Athletics team mascots, Wilbur and Wilma, during a men’s basketball game. 14-year-old Billy Cronin, a basketball player who was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2024, had his dream to play in the NBA shattered by the illness. However, with the support of his family and medical team, he is now working towards getting a prosthetic leg and aiming to play basketball again. The medical center’s prom will be held at Arizona Stadium on March 29th.
