Retta Cruse, who was convicted of killing her two children in 2021, died by suicide at ASPC-Perryville. Cruse was found unresponsive in her housing unit and despite life-saving measures, she was pronounced dead. She was convicted of giving her daughters, ages 4 and 9, prescription drugs that caused their deaths. Cruse also harmed herself with a knife during the incident. A witness reported that she was upset about losing custody of one of her daughters. The Arizona Department of Corrections confirmed her death.
