Chris Kluwe, Former NFL punter, arrested for protesting against Trump at city council meeting

Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe was arrested at a Huntington Beach City Council meeting after labeling President Donald Trump and his supporters as a fascist movement. In response, Kluwe called for peaceful civil disobedience and criticized spending public funds on a tribute to Trump in the form of a plaque at a library in the city. He listed various reasons for opposing Trump, including issues related to transgender rights, education, and military veterans.

During the council meeting, Kluwe called MAGA a Nazi movement and engaged in peaceful civil disobedience by stepping towards council members before being arrested. Kluwe, a long-time advocate for LGBTQ rights, urged others to resist Trump’s agenda.

Kluwe, who grew up in nearby Seal Beach and graduated from UCLA with a degree in political science, spent about four hours in jail following the protest. He praised the professionalism of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

Kluwe emphasized the importance of leading by example and encouraged others to take a stand against what he perceives as the corrupt and anti-democratic actions of the Trump administration. He rejected Trump’s self-proclaimed title of “king” and called for unity in opposing policies that he believes threaten democracy and human rights.
