Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes has filed a lawsuit against Deere & Company (John Deere) for monopolizing the agricultural equipment market. The lawsuit, joined by the Federal Trade Commission and attorneys general from four other states, accuses Deere of restricting farmers and independent repair providers from fixing Deere equipment by limiting access to software tools. The company’s use of the software tool “Service ADVISOR™” only available to authorized dealers creates a monopoly that drives up repair prices and limits consumer freedom. Mayes’ spokesperson, Richie Taylor, highlighted the importance of the right-to-repair issue across various industries and ensuring consumers have the freedom to choose how they repair products they have bought. The lawsuit alleges that Deere’s actions violate antitrust laws and seeks to stop their unlawful practices. Mayes’ office emphasized the need to protect consumers’ rights to affordable repairs. The case will proceed in court to address these concerns.
