Former California sheriff’s deputy, 68-year-old Jeffrey Joseph York, has been convicted in Yavapai County, Arizona, of luring a minor for sexual exploitation and two counts of attempted sexual conduct with a minor. York, retired from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, was caught in an undercover operation in September 2023, where he tried to meet up with a 7-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl. Prosecutors say he described acts he planned to engage in with the children and was arrested at the arranged meet-up spot.
Yavapai County Attorney Dennis McGrane expressed outrage at York’s actions, stating that adults who prey on children have no place in the community, especially when they have a law enforcement background. McGrane emphasized that sexual predators are not welcome in Yavapai County and will be aggressively prosecuted.
York is facing up to 26 years and three months in prison, with sentencing scheduled for February 28 at Yavapai County Superior Court. The case serves as a reminder that law enforcement will not tolerate the abuse of children within the community.
