Memorial in honor of Sade Robinson, Milwaukee woman who was killed on date, postponed due to racist emails

After a memorial for Sade Robinson, a 19-year-old woman who was killed and dismembered after going on a date with her accused murderer, was canceled due to racist emails, Milwaukee County Supervisor Juan Miguel Martinez decided to withdraw the $7,000 taxpayer-funded resolution for the memorial in Warnimont Park in Cudahy. Martinez explained that after speaking with Robinson’s mother, Sheena Scarbrough, they determined it was best to withdraw the resolution in light of the hateful responses they received. Martinez expressed disappointment in the racist emails and emphasized the need for empathy and compassion in such situations.

Robinson went missing after a date with Maxwell Anderson, who was later arrested and charged with her murder, mutilating her corpse, and arson. Various body parts belonging to Robinson were found scattered in the area, leading to Anderson’s arrest. Despite pleading not guilty, Anderson remains in custody on a $5 million bail.

Milwaukee County Supervisor Felesia A. Martin criticized the racist emails received about the memorial, calling it unfortunate that such overt prejudice is prevalent in society. Martin also noted that a park may not be the best location for the memorial due to the tragic nature of the event. Despite no longer being a co-sponsor of the resolution, Martin hopes to find a more appropriate way to honor Robinson in the future.
