Arizona plans to file lawsuit over DOGE’s access to government data

Democratic attorneys general in multiple states, including Arizona, have announced plans to file a lawsuit against Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency for accessing federal payment systems containing Americans’ sensitive personal information. The attorneys general, led by Kris Mayes, are taking action to defend privacy rights and essential funding. They argue that no one, not even the richest man in the world, is above the law.

The White House has not yet responded to the concerns raised by government officials and labor unions about potential security risks and missed payments for programs like Social Security and Medicare. A federal judge has ordered that two Musk allies have limited access to Treasury Department payment systems, pending further investigation.

Critics have denounced Musk’s actions, accusing him of invading privacy and undermining government agencies. The situation escalated after Treasury’s acting Deputy Secretary resigned following pressure from Musk and DOGE for access to sensitive data. The lawsuit against the Department of Government Efficiency is expected to be filed soon by the coalition of Democratic attorneys general from various states.
