Maricopa County’s Estrella Mountain Regional Park is set to break ground on a new campground, offering 50 developed campsites, restrooms with showers, equestrian amenities, and more. The construction will begin on February 3 in Goodyear, AZ. Additionally, the park will see improvements to its picnic area, adding trees, native plants, cacti, and updating irrigation systems.
The decision to build a campground was based on public feedback and the availability of space after decommissioning the rodeo arena. The park, which initially opened in 1954 and has grown to over 19,000 acres, offers a variety of recreational activities and amenities for visitors. The new campground will provide an alternative RV camping option for guests attending events at Phoenix Raceway.
During construction, certain areas of the park will be closed to guests, with limited access to trails and parking. The project is expected to be completed by March 2027. Supervisor Steve Gallardo expressed excitement about bringing the campground project to fruition based on public input.
