Caleb Love leads UNC to OT victory over No. 3 Iowa State, Arizona emerges victorious

In a thrilling matchup on Monday, Arizona’s Caleb Love sank a miraculous shot from beyond halfcourt at the end of regulation to force overtime and secure an 86-75 victory over No. 3 Iowa State. Despite struggling with his 3-point shots earlier in the game, Love finished with a game-high 22 points and made four of his last six attempts from beyond the arc. The win propelled Arizona to second place in the Big 12 standings, just half a game behind conference leader Houston.

Coach Tommy Lloyd praised the dramatic victory as great theater and showed respect for Iowa State, acknowledging that they will bring their best when the teams meet again in March. Love described the shot as the best moment of his life. The Wildcats also had a strong first half, with Love contributing a breakaway dunk during a 16-0 run that allowed them to surge ahead of Iowa State.

Despite a brief comeback by the Cyclones, they were unable to overcome the Wildcats’ balanced scoring attack. Freshman Carter Bryant had a standout performance with 14 points, while Iowa State’s Curtis Jones, who had been a star in the previous game against ASU, was held to just eight points on difficult shooting. Arizona now looks ahead to a showdown with rival ASU in the upcoming Territorial Cup match.
