The Arizona Theatre Company in Tucson is shining a spotlight on the talented individuals who work behind the scenes to bring theatrical productions to life. Phyliss Davies, the costume draper with the company since 1984, plays a crucial role in turning two-dimensional designs into wearable art. She is passionate about her work and enjoys the challenge of making costumes align with the designer’s vision. The company also employs a diverse group of artisans, like production manager Jamie Lara, who work together to create beautiful sets and props for the stage. ATC recently opened a state-of-the-art production hub to enhance collaboration among designers, builders, and leaders. Faith Boucher, ATC’s property supervisor, emphasizes the importance of collaboration in making a play successful. The company’s current season includes five productions, with “Blues in the Night” scheduled to run from Jan. 26 to Feb. 15 at the Temple for Music and Art. ATC’s dedication to excellence extends beyond Tucson, as they strive to uphold their reputation as the state theater of Arizona and bring quality performances to audiences in the Phoenix metro area.
