Nine University of Arizona students were recognized with Centennial Achievement Awards for their resilience and commitment to academic excellence. Two undergraduate and seven graduate students were honored, each receiving a stipend and an engraved plaque.
President Suresh Garimella expressed pride in the students’ success and highlighted the university’s focus on student achievement. Among the awardees were students with compelling stories of perseverance and determination. For example, Robynique Kendryna, a first-generation college student, drew inspiration from personal challenges to pursue a career in human development and family science.
Other awardees included Octreyvian Killian, who overcame adversity to excel academically, and Samantha Barrera, a survivor of domestic violence pursuing a law degree. The diverse group of students also included international students like Rodrigo Guerra Su, Margaret Mercer, Asya Gorlova, and Onur Ural Burns, who have overcome challenges to pursue their academic goals.
These students’ stories exemplify the University of Arizona’s commitment to supporting students from all backgrounds in their pursuit of academic success.
