Arizona State’s inclusion in College Football Playoff labeled as worst team ever

Arizona State is gearing up for its quarterfinal College Football Playoff matchup against the winner of Texas vs. Clemson, and they have some fresh motivation heading into the game. ESPN’s Bill Connelly ranked all 52 playoff teams from the past decade, and unfortunately, Arizona State found itself at the bottom of the list.

Connelly’s reasoning was that two weeks before the Big 12 chaos, the Sun Devils seemed like they had no chance at the playoff or a conference title. However, Arizona State defied the odds with a remarkable six-game winning streak that included standout performances from running back Cameron Skattebo. Skattebo rushed for over 100 yards in five of those victories and was a key player in their Big 12 title win.

Despite being considered underdogs against powerhouse teams like Clemson and Ohio State, the Sun Devils are embracing their role and using it as motivation. Coach Kenny Dillingham expressed their mindset on a podcast, saying, “I really don’t care who we play. We’re probably going to be double-digit underdogs, but either way, we’re going to be ready to compete.”

Arizona State’s unexpected success this season has definitely turned heads in the college football world, and they are prepared to continue to shock their opponents in the playoff. The Sun Devils have proven that they should not be underestimated, and they are eager to show the nation what they are capable of achieving on the gridiron.
