Tanimura and Antle, a major agricultural employer in Yuma, is set to build a new housing complex for farmworkers in the area. The project was approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission and is expected to house nearly 1,500 agriculture employees during the peak harvest season from September through February. The complex will help centralize the company’s workers, who currently reside in leased housing properties. Jennifer Albers, assistant planning and zoning director for the city of Yuma, believes that this development will not only support the housing needs of agricultural workers but also open up more affordable housing options for local residents. The complex, being built by Avila Construction, is the largest agricultural housing project of its kind in Yuma and will be located near Avenue 6 E and E 30th Street on property owned by Tanimura and Antle. This new housing complex aims to provide better living conditions for farmworkers while addressing the housing challenges faced by both agricultural workers and local residents in Yuma.
