Luigi Mangione, a suspect in the shooting death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, was arrested in Pennsylvania on charges including carrying firearms without a license and tampering with records. He was found in a McDonald’s carrying fake IDs. Mangione recently traveled from Philadelphia to Altoona by bus, where he was questioned about the killing of Thompson. Authorities found a handwritten document and a ghost gun in his possession.
Mangione graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020 and had a significant online presence, especially on Goodreads. He reviewed books like the “Unabomber Manifesto” and expressed disillusionment with modern society. His posts focused on conservative-leaning tech figures, issues like declining birthrates and social media use, and criticism of inclusive views. Mangione was also interested in Japanese culture and wellness topics like masculinity and artificial intelligence.
Meanwhile, in New York, the investigation into Thompson’s death continued, with police describing the shooting as premeditated and targeted. Thompson was shot in front of the New York Hilton Midtown and died as he was walking to an investor conference. The masked shooter fled on foot and then on a bike into Central Park. Police are continuing to gather evidence and piece together the events leading up to Thompson’s death.
