ADOT completes $35 million project to fix lanes on I-17 near Flagstaff

[ad_1]
The Arizona Department of Transportation has completed a $35 million project to repave 30 miles of Interstate 17 southbound from Flagstaff to the Mogollon Rim scenic viewpoint. The project included repaving nine bridges and several on and offramps along the route. ADOT spokesman Doug Nintzel explained that the freeze-thaw cycle in the High Country causes roads to deteriorate quickly, making regular maintenance essential.

Local business owner Cody Doyle noted that the road conditions had become a hazard for drivers before the project began. He believes that the smoother roads will attract more visitors to Flagstaff, as improved infrastructure makes the area more appealing for tourists. ADOT has previously completed similar projects in the area, but ongoing maintenance is necessary due to the harsh winter conditions.

In addition to the repaving project, ADOT recently finished a $8.2 million project to construct a new bridge near Flagstaff’s Pulliam Airport, which will support heavier vehicles and improve traffic flow. The road work aims to enhance safety, accessibility, and overall travel experience for residents and visitors in the High Country.
