Passenger tries to redirect Mexican flight to the United States

A man attempted to divert a domestic Mexican flight to the United States by assaulting a flight attendant and trying to enter the cockpit on Volaris Flight 3041 from Guanajuato to Tijuana. The crew members subdued the man and landed at Guadalajara International Airport, where he was detained by the Mexican National Guard. Volaris stated that their crew acted appropriately and all passengers and crew members were safe. The man, a 31-year-old Mexican national, was traveling with his wife and children and claimed that a close relative had been kidnapped and he had received a threat that he would die if he went to Tijuana. The man will be overseen by Mexico’s Federal Public Ministry and Attorney General’s Office.
