Duluth Contemplates Hiring Arizona Company for Tourist Marketing Efforts

[ad_1]
The city of Duluth is facing backlash for recommending awarding a two-year, $3.6 million tourism marketing contract to an out-of-state firm, Madden Media from Arizona, over local Duluth-based firms. This decision has created controversy within the business community, with many expressing disappointment that local firms were passed over for the contract.

Despite the advantage given to local firms in the selection process, Madden Media was chosen as the winner by a review committee composed of community volunteers. The committee defended their choice, citing an impartial and fair blind scoring process.

While Madden CEO Dan Janes tried to address concerns about a potential conflict of interest, some city councilors and business leaders are questioning the decision. City Attorney Terri Lehr warned that not following the recommendation could result in litigation, although some have labeled this as a “fear tactic.”

The Duluth City Council is set to vote on the recommendation, with a divided community eager to see who will ultimately secure the contract.
