Cam Skattebo narrowly beats out Heisman candidate for player of the week

[ad_1]
Cam Skattebo of Arizona State University had a standout performance in the Big 12 Championship game, rushing for 170 yards, totaling 208 all-purpose yards, and scoring three touchdowns. As a result, he was named The Associated Press Player of the Week for conference championship weekend, beating out Heisman favorite Ashton Jeanty of Boise State.

Skattebo, a senior running back, now holds the program record for all-purpose yards with 2,074, ranking second in the nation. He also tied the school record for total touchdowns and rushing touchdowns. With 75 more yards, he will break the program’s single-season rushing record.

This is the second time this season that Skattebo has been named Player of the Week, having previously received the honor after a stellar performance in Week 2 against Mississippi State.

In other college football news, Ashton Jeanty of Boise State set a program record as the all-time leading rusher with 4,655 yards. He also leads Skattebo in total yards from scrimmage this season.

Additionally, notable performances in conference championship games include a game-winning field goal by freshman Nolan Hauser of Clemson, a standout game by Army QB Bryson Daily, and an overtime victory by Georgia with backup QB Gunner Stockton at the helm.

Arizona State, Indiana, and TCU have all shown significant improvement in their win totals from one season to the next, while Marshall’s dominant win over Louisiana-Lafayette set a record for the largest margin of victory in Sun Belt championship games.
