One significant development is the launch of a scholarship program, with its first recipient being Serena Desiderio, a soon-to-be graduate from the University of Arizona studying physiology and medical sciences. Desiderio was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in high school and plans to attend physical therapy school after graduation.
The scholarship program, provided by the Muscular Dystrophy Association, has not only offered financial support to Desiderio but has also connected her with a supportive community. This support has fueled Desiderio’s passion for advocating for others and has given her a new direction for her career goals.
Desiderio’s own experience with muscular dystrophy has given her a unique perspective and extraordinary empathy for others facing similar challenges.
