Waymo plans to launch robotaxi service in Miami by 2026

[ad_1]
Waymo, an Alphabet-owned company, announced plans to expand its self-driving robotaxi service to Miami, Florida, with human safety drivers in 2025 and autonomous rides available through its app in 2026. The move follows successful testing in Miami in 2019, improving navigation in adverse weather conditions. Waymo plans to operate in some areas of Miami’s metropolitan area, which has over 6 million people. The company has been rapidly expanding its services, with operations in Los Angeles, Phoenix, and San Francisco, as well as partnerships with Uber in Austin and Atlanta. Waymo recently closed a $5.6 billion funding round to further expand its services across the U.S. Competitors like GM-owned Cruise, Tesla, Wayve, and Zoox are also developing autonomous vehicles, with Tesla planning to launch a self-driving ride-hailing service in California and Texas by 2025. Despite the competition, Waymo remains the only autonomous vehicle developer with a commercial robotaxi service operating in major metro areas across the U.S. The company also announced a partnership with Moove to manage fleet operations, facilities, and charging infrastructure in Miami and Phoenix, further solidifying its presence in the autonomous vehicle market.
