Suspect in Tanya Begay murder case in Arizona sentenced to death in separate trial

[ad_1]
Jason Thornburg, a man who confessed to killing a missing woman in Arizona, has been sentenced to death in Texas for killing and dismembering three people in Fort Worth. Thornburg, 44, was found guilty of capital murder for the deaths of David Lueras, Lauren Phillips, and Maricruz Mathis, their bodies were discovered in a burning dumpster in 2021. Police also found Thornburg’s roommate, Mark Jewell, dead in a house fire, and his girlfriend, Tanya Begay, missing after a trip to Arizona in 2017. Thornburg confessed to police that he believed he was called to “commit sacrifices” due to his in-depth knowledge of the Bible. Despite the guilty verdict, Begay’s family still seeks closure as her body has never been found. Thornburg’s attorneys argued he should be found not guilty by reason of insanity. The case remains open as FBI continues to search for Tanya Begay.
