Family of Arizona dancer found in burning car still seeking answers after suspect’s arrest

[ad_1]
Authorities in Arizona recently made an arrest in the brutal killing of Mercedes Vega, an exotic dancer whose body was found in a burning car on a highway 19 months ago. Sencere Hayes, 22, faces charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, and theft in connection with Vega’s death. Despite this development, Vega’s mother, Erika Pillsbury, is still seeking answers about why her daughter was targeted and who else may have been involved in the crime. Pillsbury expressed her desire to know the truth, even if it may bring more pain.
Hayes pleaded not guilty during his arraignment and is being held on a $2 million cash bond. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the crime or Hayes’ connection to Arizona. The investigation is ongoing, and officials have urged understanding due to the sensitive nature of the case. Sheriff Russ Skinner stated that while there is still much to uncover, the arrest of Hayes may be a step toward closure for Vega’s family. Pillsbury and her husband attended Hayes’ court appearance to ensure he knew they were monitoring the proceedings. Vega’s family last saw her entering her apartment complex on April 16, 2023, before her body was discovered in a burned car the next day. Vega had been beaten, shot, and burned before her body was found, raising questions about the circumstances leading to her death.
