Arizona teenager Ares Adle has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the 2019 murder of his aunt, Tonya Harper, when he was just 14 years old. Adle was convicted of second-degree murder after stabbing his aunt to death at her home near Alma School and Chandler Heights in Chandler. Prosecutors argued that Adle planned the crime, citing evidence that he cut phone lines and hid cell phones and the bloody knife. Adle claimed he felt threatened by a comment his aunt made, stating that he loved her and did not want to hurt her. Despite his parents’ claims that he suffers from schizophrenia, mental health was not a factor in the trial. Adle was originally charged with first-degree murder, but a jury convicted him of second-degree murder with a sentencing range of 10-25 years. This case highlights the tragic consequences of violent actions committed by young individuals and the impact it has on families and communities.
