Arizona football to bring in new offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator

The Arizona Wildcats have announced changes to their coaching staff for the 2025 season, with offensive coordinator Dino Babers not returning. Defensive coordinator Duane Akina and special teams coordinator Danny Gonzales will remain with the team in new roles. Head coach Brent Brennan expressed disappointment in the team’s performance and stated that these changes will impact the program’s long-term success. Akina will lead the secondary, while Gonzales’ role is still undetermined, with potential consideration for the defensive coordinator position. Brennan is looking to hire an external candidate for the offensive coordinator role to help develop quarterback Noah Fifita. Babers, who had lost his playcalling duties earlier in the season, will not be returning. Texas State offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich has been named as a potential replacement for Babers, although he is also a target for Texas Tech. Akina, a long-time defensive coach, will focus on producing NFL defensive backs. Gonzales, who had a successful coaching career prior to joining Arizona, will likely be solely focused on special teams in his new role. Changes to the coaching staff come after a disappointing 4-8 season, as Brennan looks to make improvements for the upcoming season.
