Arizona legislator targets ticket scalping and reselling with updated state law

[ad_1]
State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ is gearing up to host A-list artists like Kendrick Lamar next year, but ticket scalpers and resellers are already trying to sell “speculative tickets” at inflated prices. Despite a new state law in Arizona prohibiting this practice, tickets for Lamar’s concert are being listed for almost $2,000 on platforms like StubHub, well before the official sale date for the public.

State Representative Analise Ortiz, who represents Legislative District 24, has spoken out against speculative ticketing, calling it deceptive and detrimental to genuine fans. In response to consumer complaints and the prevalence of this issue, Ortiz has reached out to the state attorney general to ensure enforcement of the law and protection of consumers.

The problem of speculative ticketing is not new, as evidenced by the continued presence of such listings on resale sites. Arizona lawmakers addressed this issue with HB 2194, but scalpers are finding ways to circumvent the law. Concertgoers are expressing frustration at the high prices and unfair practices, emphasizing the importance of enforcing regulations in the ticket resale industry. ABC15 has contacted StubHub for a response.
