James Craig, a Colorado dentist, is facing new charges related to allegations that he tried to kill a detective involved in the case of his wife’s death. He was previously charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife, Angela Craig, who died in 2023 after ingesting poisoned protein shakes. Craig has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge and now faces additional charges, including solicitation to commit first-degree murder and perjury.
The solicitation charge was filed after it was discovered that Craig had been in jail with an individual he allegedly approached to murder the detective working on his wife’s case. The detective had been involved in investigating Angela Craig’s death, which was initially believed to be caused by arsenic and cyanide poisoning.
Authorities found that Craig had purchased cyanide before his wife’s death and had it delivered to his dental practice. His business partner became suspicious of the purchase and alerted authorities. The defense lawyer representing Craig withdrew from the case just before jury selection was set to begin, citing concerns about his client’s actions.
The investigation into Angela Craig’s death revealed that she was poisoned with cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a medication found in eye drops. Despite evidence linking Craig to the purchase of cyanide and his wife’s poisoning, his defense maintains that there is no direct evidence proving his involvement in her death. Jury selection for his trial has been postponed indefinitely.
