The Department for Enterprise has announced that the annual STEMFest event, focusing on science, technology, engineering, and maths for primary school children, has been rescheduled for 26 and 27 March at the Villa Marina. The event was postponed last month due to bus driver shortages, which made it challenging to organise transportation for the 800 pupils expected to attend. Minister Tim Johnston stated that the new date allows for sufficient time to arrange logistical and industry support for the event.
STEMFest, which first took place in 2018, aims to spark students’ interest in STEM subjects by showcasing exhibits from various organizations. Johnston emphasized the importance of ensuring that all primary school year groups have the opportunity to attend, as the event is a highlight in schools’ learning calendars. He highlighted that nurturing a love for STEM subjects early on can help shape the future innovators and problem solvers.
Primary schools across the island have been informed of the rescheduled date, and the majority have confirmed their participation. By rescheduling and ensuring all students have the opportunity to attend, the Department for Enterprise aims to continue supporting and encouraging students’ interest and engagement in STEM fields. The rescheduled event is expected to provide a valuable learning opportunity for primary school children in the Isle of Man.
