Detective working on a cold case reflects on ‘Baby Skylar’ investigation that lasted for years

Decades after the mysterious death of “Baby Skylar” at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport in 2005, police finally made an arrest earlier this year. Annie Anderson, a 51-year-old woman from Washington state, was identified as the mother of the newborn after investigative genetic genealogy helped track her down. Anderson allegedly admitted to giving birth in her hotel bathtub and claimed the baby was stillborn, but police say this is inconsistent with the evidence. Anderson was arrested for the death of Baby Skylar and is currently awaiting extradition to Arizona. The case, which had gone cold for years, involved advanced forensic techniques like phenotyping and genealogy. Anderson’s trial is set for February 2025 after her bond was reduced to $200,000. Despite the progress in the case, Anderson’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment. The arrest and ongoing legal proceedings have brought some closure to the tragic case that shocked the community.
