President-elect Donald Trump announced his intent to nominate Charles Kushner, a real estate developer and father of Jared Kushner, as ambassador to France. Trump praised Charles Kushner as a business leader, philanthropist, and dealmaker who will represent the interests of the country. He also congratulated Kushner’s family in the announcement.
Trump highlighted the work done by Jared Kushner during his first administration, including Operation Warp Speed, Criminal Justice Reform, and the Abraham Accords. The president-elect emphasized the importance of strengthening America’s partnership with France, one of the country’s oldest allies.
Charles Kushner was previously sentenced to two years in prison in 2005 for tax evasion, witness tampering, and making illegal campaign donations. He was prosecuted by Chris Christie, who later became the governor of New Jersey and a political opponent of Trump. Christie referred to the Kushner case as one of the most loathsome crimes he prosecuted.
In 2020, Trump pardoned Charles Kushner, along with other individuals, after losing his re-election bid. The announcement of Charles Kushner’s nomination as ambassador to France comes as Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner continue to play prominent roles in the Trump family’s political activities.
