The ongoing dispute between Phoenix Children’s Hospital (PCH) and major insurer AZ Blue (Blue Cross Blue Shield Arizona) has left dozens of families in a difficult position. PCH recently announced that it has cut ties with AZ Blue after contract negotiations broke down, impacting families who rely on the specialized care provided by the hospital. One Phoenix mother shared how her son, diagnosed with a rare heart disease, may now struggle to receive the necessary treatment due to the insurance dispute.
AZ Blue claims that PCH turned down an $80 million raise, while PCH states that the offer was closer to $43 million. Families like Jay’s parents, who work for themselves and must purchase individual health insurance coverage, are feeling the effects of the situation. Despite PCH accepting nearly 30 insurance plans, none of them are suitable for Jay’s parents. The uncertainty surrounding their son’s care has left them feeling frustrated and lost.
Both PCH and AZ Blue have information available on their websites, and individuals are advised to contact the number on the back of their insurance card for specific details on how this dispute may affect their benefits.
