A worker in Wellesley, Massachusetts was seriously injured when he received an electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on a tree. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. and the worker was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The worker, a 22-year-old man employed by NZ Power Wash, was using a pole to string up lights when it came into contact with an electrical line atop a utility pole, giving him a shock. The man collapsed and was found unconscious and not breathing by a coworker who called 911. The police arrived and were able to revive the man after using an automated external defibrillator. He was then taken to Newton Wellesley Hospital and later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital. The worker is currently recovering in the hospital.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the incident, along with local authorities. The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments have extended their thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family. The coworker who witnessed the incident declined to comment. This serves as a reminder of the importance of following safety protocols when working with electricity and the hazards that can arise from not doing so.
