Costco is recalling 10,800 units of organic eggs sold under their Kirkland Signature brand due to concerns they may be contaminated with salmonella. The affected cartons were sold in 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee beginning on Nov. 22. The recall only applies to units with Julian code 327 and a “use by” date of Jan. 6, 2025. No other products are affected by the recall.
The eggs were recalled after Handsome Brook Farms, the supplier, discovered that eggs not intended for stores were mistakenly packaged and distributed in retail packaging. To prevent this from happening again, additional supply chain controls and retraining are being implemented. So far, no illness complaints have been reported, and the recall is being done in cooperation with the FDA.
Consumers who have purchased the affected eggs are advised to stop consuming them and return the units to their local Costco store for a full refund. They can also choose to dispose of the products. It is important to follow these instructions to prevent any potential health risks associated with salmonella contamination.
