Morning News: Israel and Hezbollah agree to ceasefire amid Thanksgiving winter weather

A U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has taken effect, ending the fighting at the Israel-Lebanese border. President Joe Biden announced the agreement, stating that the ceasefire is permanent. The deal comes after escalating tensions and back-and-forth strikes over the last year, which killed dozens of people in Israel and hundreds in Lebanon. Israeli troops will begin withdrawing from Lebanon, with all troops expected to be gone within 60 days.

On a different note, winter weather is forecast for Thanksgiving, with an “Arctic outbreak” expected to bring cold temperatures and snow to various parts of the U.S. Air travel has already been impacted by weather-related delays and cancellations.

President-elect Donald Trump’s administration is expected to use the little-known 287(g) program to aid in mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. The program allows state and local law enforcement officers to perform certain functions of an immigration officer, leading to concerns of racial profiling and fear in immigrant communities.

In more lighthearted news, Hallmark and the NFL have teamed up for a Kansas City Chiefs-themed rom-com, “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story.” The film features scenes filmed at Arrowhead Stadium, where Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s love story reportedly began. Overall, the day’s news covers a range of topics from international conflicts to holiday entertainment and weather updates.
