Arizona is set to expand its sports betting market by adding at least two new operators, the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) announced recently. With 17 sportsbooks currently in operation, the state has room for up to 20 sportsbooks under Arizona state law.
The ADG is looking to fill two vacancies in the market, with one license connected to a Tribal gaming group and one connected to a professional sports franchise. Currently, eight licenses are connected to sports franchises, and nine are connected to Tribal gaming groups.
Interested operators can submit their applications from July 8-19. The ADG will evaluate applications based on established criteria to determine who will receive the new licenses. The most recent additions to the Arizona sports betting market were bet365 and ESPN Bet, adding to the already established presence of FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook, which currently dominate the market.
Other active sportsbooks in the state include Bally Bet, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, Rush Street Interactive, and SuperBook Sports. While no specific names of potential new operators have emerged, there is anticipation for the expansion of the market with the addition of two new sportsbooks.
As Arizona prepares to welcome new operators to its sports betting market, the industry continues to grow and evolve in the state. With the potential for up to two new operators, the competition is expected to increase, providing consumers with more options for sports betting in Arizona.
